PRACHAND TO MEET HU JINTAO |
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will meet Chinese president Hu Jintao on Monday.
PM Dahal will lead an 11 member team of the Nepalese delegation during the concluding ceremony of the Beijing Olympics to be held on Sunday. He is scheduled to have one to one meeting with the Chinese president while the meeting with the Chinese Prime Minister will be in group. PM Dahal will also attend the luncheon hosted by Chinese government in honour of the heads of state and government attending the ceremony. Leaders of various countries including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will attend the concluding ceremony. But it is not clear who will be the other leaders to meet PM Dahal during the visit to the northern neighbour. This is his first visit to a foreign country following his election to the prime minister of Nepal last week. India has expressed unhappiness over the visit saying it is too soon. There is the suggestion from India that the visit would not have taken place soo soon, Maoists' foreign policy srategist CP Gajurel told BBC Nepali Service. There was the tradition of visiting India first before going to China or other country in the past. However, this is a special circumstance that the election of the PM was held just a few days before the concluding ceremony of the Beijing Olympics being held in the friendly neighbour China. President Dr Ram Baran Yadav could not attend the inaugural ceremony due to the political development in Nepal and it is quite natural to visit China by an elected PM of Nepal. The 11 member delegation includes PM Dahal's wife, foreign secretary Gyan Chandra Acharya and Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara. |
